Episode 1
Exciting changes in the kitchen this week with a new table purchase. The last one owed us very little as it had been a Facebook Marketplace find and had been re-varnished, then painted, re-painted and finally painted again and leaving us with the added benefit of everything sticking to the top layer of gloss paint. Luckily, we just missed thunder bug season! The new addition has changed not only the appearance of the kitchen but, for the moment, has changed our way of using the space. We now actually sit down and chat, drink a glass of wine, or two, and even, shock horror, eat meals there!
Another new purchase was a pasta/gnocchi roller. Home-made pasta dough was knocked up in seconds using the kitchenAid and I had great success rolling the dough, having viewed a real life Nonna on Youtube. However the cooked pasta was a bit of a let-down. It was like eating the old white-sliced bread of my childhood. You chewed and chewed and it just ended up coating the roof of your mouth, making you fear for your life if you were to actually swallow it. Must try harder and more work needed!
A letterbox flower delivery arrived in the week, a thank you gift from family. Unfortunately, our new build property has a letter box opening comparable to an ultra-slim sanitary napkin, definitely not made for heavy flow! Luckily, we found the delivery on our front border, too small to call it a garden, a few hours after delivery. Despite the extra time they spent in the box in the full sun, definitely not sleeping but more comatose, they rallied marvelously and have made me smile throughout the week.
Our back garden however, is generous in size, for a new-build, and we have put it to good use growing our own veggies and herbs. This courgette was not only large but tasted fabulous! There will be a lot more shared of our harvest in future weeks, not least because we have approximately 300 Pak Choi, that will, of course, be ready within an hour of each other!
We crossed the border into Devon this week, not just for food bags from Ikea but to visit towns for a mooch and a nose. This picture is of Tiverton, which doesn’t always get a good press, but we found the shops quite good with many independents and an abundance of wedding hats in the Charity Shops. More of that to come…
Finally, a snippet of my meaningful dog walks, that helps keep me grounded. I defy anyone to get outside in the countryside, or town, enjoy a good walk and not come back feeling more positive and rested.
